Quick and Easy Onion Gravy

Winter calls for comforting, cosy meals, and nothing says comfort like a delicious onion gravy!

This crowd pleaser can be whipped up in the time it takes to cook our Cumberlands in the oven or air fryer.

Ingredients

  • 2 large brown onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1 ½ tablespoons plain flour
  • 375ml (1½ cup) chicken or vegetable stock
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 2 tablespoon cream (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Method

  1. Melt butter and oil together in a pan over a low heat. Once melted add the sliced onions and cook over a medium-low heat for 8 to 10 minutes or until very soft and starting to colour.
  2. Next, add the flour to the pan and mix through with the onion. Cook for 3 minutes or until flour starts to turn light golden.
  3. Slowly add in 1/2 of half of the stock and stir through. Once the mixture thickens, slowly add in the remaining stock and stir through, then bring to a simmer and allow to cook for 3 minutes until mixture has thickened.
  4. Finally add the mustard and for decadent touch, the cream and stir through. Taste and season to your liking with salt and pepper.
