Now this certainly is a hot breakfast topic! The Full English Breakfast is renowned across the globe, and while there may be a bit of debate about the exact components (regional variations exist, you see), most agree that it must have…

  • Sausages – often pork, sometimes Chipolatas
  • British-Style Back Bacon
  • Baked Beans
  • Fried Eggs – for dipping your toast!
  • Black Pudding
  • Fried Mushrooms
  • Fried Tomato
  • Fried Bread – bread soaked in the bacon fat and fried until golden brown

And… of course… served up with a strongly brewed tea. It’s simply not a proper English breakfast without it!

Where the debate seems to spice up is around the sauces that people enjoy with a Full English. While HP Sauce tends to be the popular choice, you can also find people enjoying tomato sauce, ketchup or even a hot sauce with their Full English. Each to their own, we say! It’s all about personal preference when it comes to the saucy accompaniment to this hearty feast.

Meanwhile, down under we do things a little differently. While our cooked breakfasts are certainly inspired by the British Full English, local produce has seen the introduction of a number of colourful foods to the plate. Namely, the avocado.

Australia produces over 150,000 tonnes of avocados annually, with around 80% of that production coming from Queensland and Western Australia. So, when you combine that abundance of produce with our knack for doing things a little differently, you get one of Australia’s more famous culinary inventions… avocado on toast! It only makes sense for us to include it in a cooked Australian Breakfast.

Our take on the Australian Breakfast includes…

  • Sausages of choice – perhaps chipolatas or even a nice chorizo, reflecting our multicultural influence
  • Bacon made with 100% Australian Pork
  • Avocado (sliced or smashed)
  • Poached Eggs
  • Cherry Tomatoes
  • Spinach
  • Sourdough Toast

And in classic Aussie fashion, served up with a flat white.

“What about sauces?” You might ask. Well, similar to the Full English, Aussies are partial to HP Sauce, tomato sauce and BBQ sauce. But if they want to go a little out there, they can sometimes include Vegemite on their toast, or even a drizzle of maple syrup over their bacon.

So now that you know the difference between a Full English Breakfast and an Australian Breakfast, which one do you prefer?

Regardless of your preference, we always recommend building your plate around traditional raw cured bacon and butcher quality sausages.
